Η θεραπεία των δαιμονισμένων στα Γέργεσα στο Μτ . 8 : 28-34  (πρβλ. Μκ . 5 : 1-20 · Λκ . 8 : 26-39 ) Όταν [ο Ιησούς] έφτασε στην απέναντι όχθη, στην περιοχή των Γεργεσηνών, τον συνάντησαν δύο δαιμονισμένοι που έρχονταν από τα μνήματα, τόσο φοβεροί, που κανένας δεν τολμούσε να περάσει από κείνον το δρόμο. Και με κραυγές του έλεγαν: «Τι δουλειά έχεις εσύ μ’ εμάς, Υιέ του Θεού; Ήρθες εδώ να μας βασανίσεις πριν την ώρα μας;» Μακριά απ’ αυτούς έβοσκε ένα μεγάλο κοπάδι από χοίρων. Και οι δαίμονες τον παρακαλούσαν λέγοντας: «Αν είναι να μας διώξεις, άφησέ μας να πάμε στο κοπάδι των χοίρων». Κι εκείνος τους είπε: «Πηγαίνετε». Αυτοί βγήκαν και πήγαν στο κοπάδι των χοίρων. Και όλο το κοπάδι των χοίρων όρμησε και γκρεμίστηκε στη λίμνη και πνίγηκαν μέσα στα νερά. Οι βοσκοί έφυγαν, πήγαν στην πόλη και ανάγγειλαν όλα τα συμβάντα και ό,τι έγινε με τους δαιμονισμένους. È come se Croce contrapponesse il Dio cristiano, che è il Dio dell’amor e al dio germanico che è il dio della distruzione , la figura di Cristo a quella di Wotan . Il cristianesimo è inteso pertanto come elemento della civiltà occidentale contrapposto alla distruzione di quella stessa civiltà.
